Streets of Glory

I learned this song from the Old Reliable String Band, Tom Paley and friends, who credited it to the Carter Family. It is a gospel standard that has been sung and adapted by many throughout the years, including a civil rights movement version. I picked a couple of verses from We Shall Overcome!: Songs of the Southern Freedom Movement (Oak, 1963)

Lyrics:

I’m gonna walk those streets of glory (oh yes)
I’m gonna walk those streets of glory one of these days, hallelujah
I’m gonna walk those streets of glory
I’m gonna walk those streets of glory one of these days

I’m gonna walk and talk with Jesus . . .

I’m gonna tell God how you treat me . . .

God’s gonna set this world on fire . . .

I'm gonna sit at the welcome table . . .

I'm gonna sit at Woolworth's lunch counter . . .
